A teen prank, terrorism, assassination, nuclear war, complex friendships and the author’s death bleed excitement from this page-turner.

In the summer of 1967, a practical joke by a 14-year-old goes drastically wrong and nearly ends in tragedy when the subject of the ruse attempts suicide. A few years later, a British Special Branch officer, having no one else with the prankster’s “talent,” recruits him to infiltrate a gang of student extremists who are believed to be planning a major terrorist attack in the heart of Glasgow. The adolescent thwarts the strike, which would have resulted in the deaths of many major political figures, and as an expression of gratitude, is invited to the prestigious event. There, he meets a statesman, who shares startling and terrifying information: the truth behind the JFK assassination, a secret he kept to himself for over forty years. In his early fifties, discovering that he is dying, he confides his secret to his best friend, who persuades him to write a fictional story of how he came by this incredible but dangerous knowledge, but this leads death to his doorstep: the U. S. agent sent to silence him is the same man who plotted the terrorist attack years earlier. In a battle to save himself and the life of his friend against the agent’s deep desire for ultimate revenge, both adversaries perish in the struggle.
